Are We There Yet?

Yep there is still time to take a family vacation before summer is over....but it takes a lot to keep the kids occupied as the miles roll by. Click on the link for some great suggestions on toys that "travel" well. http://slideshow.ivillage.com/parenting/hot_toys/toys_that_travel/post_345.html

Hey Dan,
Mind if I share what we did when our kids were younger? They each had one of those clip boards that has storage area, a pencil case that held colored pencils (they don't melt in a hot car), a deck of cards and we always went to the library for a few books. They each had a backpack that was just for traveling and the items went into it. The clip boards held paper that was going to go in the trash so it was a way of recycling. The backpacks stayed in the car so if we decided to take a long drive on a Saturday or Sunday...they were good to go. The library books meant new adventures (these were for long trips out of town), the cards could be to play a two person game or each could play solitary. They could create beautiful works of art on the recycled paper OR play dots, tick-tac-toe, etc. The clipboard doubled as a writing surface. We never heard arguments on trips because they were too busy. Lots of good memories!!!
