Put Down The Plastic?
Over the past couple of days the Today show has raised the alarm about a dangerous chemical in some plastic bottles called BPA. Apparently you can identify which bottles contain this compound by checking the recycle number on the bottom of the bottle, which you find inside the triangle on the bottom of most bottles. According to reports bottles with the number 1 should be used only once and then discarded. Bottles with the numbers 2, 4 and 5 can be used multiple times as long as they are in good shape. Bottles with the numbers 3, 6 or 7 on the bottom should be avoided as they could be letting some of this chemical make its way into the fluids you are drinking and ultimately into your body. As of this time acceptable levels have not been established, but it may be better to be safe than sorry and avoid bottles with BPA until we know more. This report gives you a little more info on the chemical and it's problems. In the interest of fairness, another report says it's all hysteria and there is nothing to worry about. Read them both and decide for yourself.

San Souci...a meal to remember.

San Souci in the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel on public square was our Double Dining Dollars Feature Restaurant this week and from the moment you enter you know you are in for a special treat. I had a chance to sample some wonderful dishes the other day including Roast Carrot Soup with honey and curry. It was truly one of the best things I had ever eaten!
We also tried several appetizers including this amazing shrimp and scallop dish with chorizo piperade salad and verjus vinagrette. I would have been perfectly satisfied if the meal ended right there, but thank goodness it didn't !

We sampled three different salads including the seasonal greens, the caesar and a greek salad unlike any I have ever tasted. All were wonderful and incredibly fresh.
Of course the entrees were the stars of the show with this mouthwatering bouillabaise....

A wood fired trout served over soft polenta with tuscan kale and salsa balsamico....

The desserts looked fabulous but I just didn't have room...
The bottom line is dinner or lunch at San Souci is more than just a meal...it truly is like a mini vacation. It's a beautiful room, with fabulous food and service that is second to none. Make sure you visit San Souci soon and log onto WDOK dot com to see what our next Double Dining Dollars feature restaurant will be, where you can buy a 50 dollar gift certificate for only 25 dollars! Don't miss out!
